Weekly Writing Prompt: Five Word Challenge

I created a post using the five words: ember, scale, hoard, moon, and breath.

This post is in response to The Procrastinators Weekly Writing Prompt (click the link to check it out!)

The orange ember fell from the smoke-filled sky.

Only ashes remained of the quaint town.

Miltonville was minute when it comes to the regular scale of villages, towns, or cities.

The few hundred voles had time to burrow deep under ground before the dragons of Nagor attacked with such fury.

No one can recall why the voles and dragons have feuded for centuries. Imankiti, the vole princess, has been warned to stay far away since she was born.

The moon became a dark red under the haze of the smoke and fire as the voles started their long journey to discover a new homeland.

Luckily, voles do not hoard their belongings and are able to start anew fairly easily. They only have their favorite sticks and pet beetles in their knapsacks.

After a few days and many nights digging, Imankiti squeaked that it was time for the lookout to pop up and take a breath of the hopefully smoke-free air.

“Pip pip!”

Imankiti smiles with glee listening to the announcement that the new area is perfect and should be far enough away until the next time the dragons of Nagor wreak havoc with the flames.
