Sometimes, you need a calm environment to have the confidence to succeed.
I have been much more successful with blood draws, and comfortable asking to try new things at my new job than where I was before!
The environment was very high stress during blood draws – the other techs would shout things like “it’s right there. why cant you get it?” and all hover while critiquing my technique the whole time. I was so nervous every time they would give me the chance, and then they would roll their eyes when I asked since I wasn’t successful “quick enough” for their standards.
Everyone where I work now has been really kind with congratulating me for trying, or saying “the vein is wiggly or really small so it was hard to get” when they would take over to successfully draw blood.
I am very glad I found a spot where I NOW KNOW I AM NOT A FAILURE OR THE PROBLEM 🙂
