SOL TUESDAY: Some Songs Stick (Day 23/365)

The playlist switches songs

I smirk as the memories come rushing back

Instantly I’m singing along

Humming the dance break riffs

How can I still recall this song?

It’s been almost two decades

Of course I’m so glad I do!

What song do you remember the lyrics to years later?

*Here is the song that inspired this post when it came on yesterday. I used to listen to constantly with my dad about 15 years ago!*

  1. That is an interesting question! I remember ALL of the Beatles and Beach Boys songs from so long ago; however, I also can sing along just fine with Taylor Swift or Beyonce!

  2. It blows my mind how many songs—and their memories—lie dormant til the chords sound, and the time machine that’s music takes me into that treasury. (I particularly recall that happening when I went to see Jersey Boys and remembered all those songs I never knew I knew.)

  3. I have such strong memories connected to songs. My sister and I used to sing a Neil Diamond song, Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon, as fast as we could. We can still sing every word today. Funny how that works–that was probably over 50 years ago and sometimes I can’t even remember things that happened hours ago! 🙂

  4. For me it was a song that was from a group in the 60’s and 70’s called Mason Profit. My folks had a few of their albums and the one song called “Two Hangman” has a very strong message from that time of speaking truth and the system trying to stop the truth… kind of a type of anthem we could use these days still. I always though it was poetic and very wise. Take a listen – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC3yZdG_2Bc
