“Luck be a lady”
“Lucky number 7”
“The luck of the draw”
Since today is Friday the 13th, I was thinking about luck and unlucky things. Superstition is something I don’t believe in but many people get spooked by various coincidences.
The same is true with good luck – people wear mismatch socks every time they watch their team play because the team one the first they did. Sometimes men still have a pretty woman blow on the dice before rolling them.
My car showed this a few days ago and it made me think of a friend in high school who every time it was 11:11, she would say “make a wish.”

There are many times that are palindromes (9:09, 3:33, 5:55, etc) so I’m not sure what was so special about 11:11 that she wouldn’t do the same ritual with the other times.
I guess I was in for some luck due to my car mileage being all ones..?
Your post drew me in with your reflections on how people think about luck (good and bad). I too had a friend who would say “make a wish” at 11:11. That memory you triggered made me smile. Thanks!

Yes, my daughters do the wish thing at 11:11. I don’t get it at all. I love your Ron Swanson quote.
