New Year, New Goals (Slice of Life 2019!)

I haven’t been writing as often as I used to and I definitely miss it and the feelings I get from reflecting, laughing, and just sharing parts of my life. Starting tomorrow, I will completing the #blogaday challenge in which you blog for a whole year (365 days, 365 posts). I successfully completed the challenge during grad school in 2016 😀 I think it will be good for me to have a goal to hold myself accountable and encourage creativity!

I also had an exciting find at Goodwill and I want to write some of the posts on it before typing it up (or taking a picture of my words). When I found this typewriter, we had a connection that could not be torn 😮 I tried to wander around the store without the wonderful machine, but I felt this longing and needed it! This particular Goodwill sells things by weight, which meant that I bought her (yes I gave the machine a gender) for about $20!!

I tested it out on the first line (the gibberish lol), the line after my “intro” is to test the correction key. Here’s to 2020!

I am glad New Year’s Eve is on a Slice of Life Tuesday this year 🙂 I used their quote for this post’s cover image because it really struck me. If you are making mistakes, at least you are trying something new.

  1. What a great find and for only $20.00. I like that you set a goal for yourself. Sometimes we need that little incentive to keep us moving. As far as mistakes go, I often told my students that if they weren’t making mistakes then they were not trying hard enough. Happy New Year!

  2. I haven’t heard of the #blogaday challenge, but I did three monthly challenges this year and gave thought about blogging every day in 2020. We have a trip to Asia planned, and that might disrupt the writing.

Have fun w/ the typewriter. The Gaiman quote is perfect. Keep moving forward.

  3. I love the typewriter. Several years ago, when I was still a school librarian, a kindergarten teacher talked to me about this dilemma that had been growing over the years. She used “Click, Clack Moo” in her farm unit, but the students, who now lived in homes with computer keyboards, didn’t really understand the click clack sound the title references. We found her a typewriter so that the kids could have a truly tactical experience to connect to the book.

  4. What a fun idea, blogging for 365 days straight! I will be interested to read what you come up with, day after day! Good luck with this and what a great find at Goodwill. You never know what you might walk out with from that store!

Thank you for sharing and have a Happy New Year!

  5. Wow, what a goal! IMPRESSIVE. You will learn so much by doing this. I’m excited to try committing to once a week. It’s been quite a while since I have done this. Good luck to you and happy new year. LOVE your new girl. May she bring you great joy and lots of good writing. (Check out Tom Hanks’ book, Uncommon Stories. I got to hear him talk about it and read from it in LA this year. He lOVES & collects typewriters.)
